Beschreibung:

Large and important collection of photographs, mainly from the 1960s and 1970s, which includes many photographs from Café Kassit in Tel-Aviv, and photographs taken from behind the scenes of Israeli and foreign films. The greatest cultural heroes of the period appear in the photographs; actors, singers and artists. The mythological Café Kassit (located at 117 Dizengoff St.) was established in 1944 by Yechezkel Weinstein, known as Chatzkel Ish [man of] Kassit. The café was managed by him and eventually by his son, Moshe Ish Kassit. Kassit served as a meeting place for the Bohemians of Tel-Aviv, a notable municipal-cultural institution in which the colorful images of father and son were prominent. Among the subjects photographed: Chatzkel Ish Kassit, Moshe Ish Kassit, Avraham Shlonsky, Moshe Dayan, Arik Einstein, Uri Zohar, Zvi Shisel, Shmulik Krauss, Yona Ben Yehuda, Arik Lavie, Assi Dayan, Ze’ev Revach, Yosef Shiloach, Dori Ben Ze’ev, Menachem Golan, Avraham Chalfi, artists Yosl Bergner and Mane Katz, and many others. Photographs from behind the scenes of films in which Moshe Ish Kassit participated: “Sapiches”, “Sababa”, “Charlie VaChetzi”, “Am Yisrael Chai”, “Eskimo Limon”, “Lul”, Givat Chalfon Eina Ona”, and more. Includes also photographs of the evening event “Chaim SheKa’eleh” which was presented in honor of Chatzkel Ish Kassit; the Kassit soccer team, founded by Avraham Deshe (Pashanel); photographs from a ceremony in which the president Ezer Weizmann and Chatzkel Ish Kassit participated, as well as many additional photographs. Unique documentation of the “Kassit” atmosphere and the spirit of the period. Over 300 photographs. Varying sizes, some of the photographs are large. A few are in poor or fair condition, the majority are in good to very good condition.
