Lot of 2 photographs, ca early 1890s, including cabinet card featuring three Indian scouts, described by verso inscription as, "Indian Scouts of Anadaiko," posed in front of a building, wearing fringed clothing and holding rifles, credited on mount to Irwin, Chickasha, Indian Territory. Accompanied by a boudoir view of three Indian scouts described by verso inscription as, "Kiowa Charley. / Comanche Jack. / Anko. / Left to right," posed holding feather fans in a field with trees in the background. Cowan's previously listed another example of this photograph, credited to Irwin and Auerbach, with the subjects identified (from the left) as: Silverhorn (Haungooah), Kiowa; Anko, Kiowa; and Comanche Jack (Watchymansookwat), Comanche. All three of these men were leaders on the Kiowa-Comanche Reservation, in this period serving also as tribal policemen. Silverhorn had been imprisoned at Fort Marion, 1875-1878. Anko produced a unique, lunar calendar from August 1889-July 1892, during the period of the Ghost Dance unrest in Indian Territory. Watchymansookwat was a nephew of the prominent Comanche chief Ten Bears. Condition: Photographs appear to be in good shape, with some wear to boudoir card mount.
