Beschreibung:

c1955 MASERATI 125 SPORT MOTORCYCLE Frame No. A7802 Engine No. XA7229X Dark red with pearl gray crescents to the fuel tank and red leather seat Engine: single cylinder, two-stoke, 123cm3, 4.8hp; Gearbox: three-speed with right-mounted shift; Suspension: hydraulic shock absorbers; Brakes: side mounted drums. In reaction to a decline in the demand for motor cars after World War II, the Orsi family (a 'gasoline-fuelled' Modenese family who had bought shares in Maserati in the early thirties) decided to found Fabbrica Candele Accumulatori Maserati S.P.A. This new venture was conceived in order to expand the scope of the company by producing standard motoring components such as batteries and spark plugs. Control of this new firm was left in the hands of Ballila Vaccari and it was he who saw an opportunity for the group to further diversify and produce motorcycles. As a means of minimizing the costs of a whole new production infrastructure, Vaccaria purchased the Italmoto motorcycle company. The machine tools and production equipment were then moved to Modena where the company made motorcycles from 1953 up until the early sixties when production ceased. The first wholly Maserati-designed motorcycle appeared in 1953 in the form of the Tipo 125/T2 and this machine held its head high in the motorcycle market, becoming renowned for being robust, reliable and economical. This particular example has been fully restored and has since remained in a private collection where it has not been run to our knowledge, thus mechanical inspection is recommended prior to any road use. Maserati made only a few thousand motorcycles in total and this is therefore a rare opportunity to acquire an example of a product borne out of sheer red-blooded entrepreneurial achievement. WITHOUT RESERVE
