c.1960 ALFA ROMEO GIULIETTA SPIDER VELOCE Registration No. 20 FGC (UK) Chassis No. 1495.11101 Engine No. 00106.00930 Red with black trim. Engine: four cylinder in-line, 1,290cc, 90bhp at 6,500rpm; Gearbox: five speed manual; Brakes: Alfin drums all round; Suspension: front, helical springs, transverse links of unequal length and bar; rear, helical springs, triangle above and struts. Left hand drive. When it presented the Giulietta Sprint in 1954, Alfa Romeo entered a new area of automobile production, medium-sized cars. Handy and lively with a modern line and aerodynamic, comfortable and roomy despite its small size, the Giulietta Sprint appeared as a 1,300cc car with superior performance, exceptional roadholding, safe braking and considerable speed. The Veloce, also available in coupe and spider versions, with even better performance, was introduced in 1956. Only 2,796 spiders were produced. The present owner bought the car from an Alfa Romeo dealer in 1966. They had supplied it new to a client in Nigeria who returned it to the UK in 1963. It has driven under 63,000 miles, and mainly been used during the summer months. The last MoT expired in 1991 and the car has been in storage since then, although the engine was regularly started every three months. The chassis number is that of a standard 1960 spider, but the engine number and specification are definitely Veloce, with twin Weber carburettors developing an additional 10bhp. The original Veloce exhaust manifold is offered with the car, although a standard exhaust is fitted. The front and rear chrome bumpers are missing and at present a small bar is fitted to the front of the car which reveals the graceful lines of the body and is reminiscent of earlier touring Alfas. A five speed gearbox, as adopted on the Sprint Speciale, is fitted which was a common modification available in kit form from the factory at the time. The car was resprayed three years ago and may be described as being in good condition.
