BYRDS, THE - SOUTH AFRICA TOUR 1968 MEM A small collection of items signed on the Byrds troubled 1968 South Africa tour. Includes three promo cards (each approx. 85 x 160mm.) signed by Roger McGinn, Chris Hillman and Kevin Kelly respectively, together with a pink album page (approx. 125 x 175mm) signed by all three. Steeped in controversy (wunderkind Gram Parsons quit the band in protest at the shows) and despite promises to the contrary the band found themselves playing to racially segregated audiences. The vendor remembers ill-feeling between the band and their audience, with McGinn openly criticising the apartheid regime from the stage.
