Beati de Jeronimo de Ancona Laudum Opusculum.
manuscript on vellum , in Latin. [Italy, Ancona: 25 May 1506]. 10 leaves (+ ii endpapers); (280 x 205mm). Modern pencil foliation on upper-right corner. Double columns of 40 lines written in dark brown ink in a semi-gothic textura between two verticals, ruled in drypoint, rubrics in red, justification: 216 x 149mm. A historiated initial of the letter “O” in pink with blue infill and white decoration features a half-length figure of Jerome of Ancona (f.2r), from which ornamental colored acanthus leaves scroll in the upper and left margins, predominantly of pink, blue, red and green with brown penwork, numerous two-line initials in red ink throughout, text capitals highlighted in red. Modern vellum, edges stained red. Condition: thumbsoiling and some darkening of the vellum, some leaves offset; covers slightly bowed. Provenance: Bishopric of Ancona [?] (ecclesiastical coat of arms on opening leaf); Camaldulensian Convent of St. Romuald (ownership inscription to f.1v). a rare and interesting account of the saintly life and miracles of jeronimo tomasi of ancona, a camadulensian monk, written by brunori of the dominican convent at ancona. The final three pages of text includes a list of the “Lords, Regulators and Senators” an additional account of four further miracles of Tomasi have been added in another hand.
