BRUCE, Lenny (1925-1966). Typed letter signed ("Lenny Bruce") to Hugh Hefner, Los Angeles, 20 May 1964. 1 page, 4to . "'How to Talk Dirty and Influence People' was OK for the magazine. I submitted this ad enclosed and the Ad Department turned it down. Do you have any juice with these people? Please answer me... Since the owners of the last two cafes have been busted and since the Steve Allen kiss of death incident, personal appearances really are out for me so this record will keep my curls above water..." With two internal Playboy letters relating to the ad, one stating that they need to review a copy of the record before they can approve the ad. And with a typed letter from Bones Howe, editor of the record, to Jack Kessie at Playboy , 12 June 1964, forwarding the extremely rare reference acetate (included in this lot) of the two bits which have been added to Bruce's new album "Lenny Bruce is Out Again." [ With: ] "How to Talk Dirty and Influence People." Photocopied typed manuscript for the series of arcticles which appeared in Playboy , October 1963-March 1964, comprising chapters 11, 14, 21 and "installment five," with some editorial correspondence and yellow carbon four-book sheets. -- "Lenny Lives." Pink carbon four-book sheets of the article which appeared in Playboy , January 1967. (4)
