Rare broadside advertisement for a hay press, designed and patented by Hollister resident L.B. Lathrop, manufactured for him at the old Kimball carriage factory in San Francisco. The text of the broaddside is comprised largely of six testimonials of some detail, comparing the press favorably to "the Petaluma press, which has heretofore been considered the best on the market; the Lathrop bales, however, are only two-thirds as large as the Petaluma," though averaging the same weight, 240 lbs. OCLC/WorldCat lists only one example of the broadside, at the University of California, Berkeley. Lot Amendments Condition: Paper darkened, a little edge wear and marginal creasing, old folds; very good. Item number: 302246
