An important letter: William, as Duke of Clarence and Admiral of the Fleet, expresses outrage that, having been selected to transport the King of France (Louis XVIII) from exile back to France following Napoleon's abdication, he has been "obliged to...'haul down my flag'...at the moment when I ought to appear in my proper station...when my own Flag ship is...the leading feature...of the ceremony." -- WELLINGTON, ARTHUR WELLESLEY, Duke of . Autograph letter signed ("Wellington") to Lady Manners Sutton, London, 18 June 1839. 1 page, 8vo . A brief reply: "I shall be delighted if you will come here whenever you please. I have only this moment received your note." -- VICTORIA, Queen of England . Autograph letter (third person) addressed on verso to Sir J. Schoedde, Lord Rokeby and Genl. The Queen writes that she "has signed the business papers" which relate to the military appointments of Schoedde, Rokeby and Bentinck. -- VICTORIA.
