Sir Paul Pindar (1565-1650), b. Wellingborough, was a London merchant and member of the Turkey Company who, in 1611, had been appointed Ambassador to the Grand Seignior at Constantinople. The timber-frame of his house in Bishopsgate Street Without was built in 1599-1600 and, when demolished to facilitate the expansion of Liverpool Street station, was presented to the Victoria and Albert Museum
