British Educational Award Medals from the Collection formed by the late T.H. Watts LANCASHIRE, Liverpool, Liverpool Royal Institution, a silver award medal by T. Wyon, helmeted bust of Minerva right, liver bird on helmet, rev. wreath, named (55, J. Fearon), 38mm, 30.18g (W 2656; D & W 145/337). Some grazes in obverse field, otherwise about extremely fine and toned, rare £80-100 Footnote The Liverpool Royal Institution, though established in 1814, did not formally open on Colquitt street until 1817 and it was 1821 before it received its royal charter. The Institution awarded prize medals to students and financed the Royal Institution Grammar School for boys. The Institution was dissolved in 1948. The recipient, Joseph Fearon of the Inner Temple, was an early donator of items to the Institution’s collection, later subsumed by the William Brown Library and Museum
