Each with a hand-colored engraved frontispiece and 8 un-colored plates, 102 "supplementary" hand-colored engraved plates at the rear of Volume 5. (8vo) 19x12.5 cm. (7½x5"), original cloth with gilt-lettered spines. First Edition. The author was a leading authority on eastern Atlantic and Mediterranean mollusks, and is known to have had a remarkably complete collection of shells from British and adjacent seas Lot Amendments Condition: Spine ends frayed, most hinges cracked; previous owner has drawn on the verso of the frontispiece in 3 volumes, frontispiece and endpaper detached in one volume, previous owner's label in first volume; cracking at gutters between signatures; still about very good.
