An intriguing document of 18th century British military life. Includes a description of the basic organizational structure of the army in Ireland under the command of Lord Viscount Richard Molesworth [1680-1758], who would become Field Marshall of the British Army in 1757. Details include pay structure, accounting regulations, recruiting guidelines, and a complete manual of arms describing the practices of standing, advancing and retreating in formation. Of particular interest is a complete manual of firing, divided into three columns, the first bearing the names of the orders (‘What is to be Done”), followed by the number of motions, followed by “The manner of doing them.” On the page following are more instructions for repeating the firings.
