Containing over 800 articles by leading scientists of the period, the journal covers such subjects as chemistry, optics, electricity, magnetism, practical mechanics, inventions, scientific instruments and natural history. Famous contributors, in addition to the editors, were Charles Babbage, J. F. W. Herschel, Robert Stevenson William Scoresby, Alexander Humboldt, Humphry Davy and numerous others. The Edinburgh New Philosophical Journal , beginning in 1826 and edited only by Jameson, continued until 1854.
