Beschreibung:

36x22 cm (14x8"), 11 (of 12) sheets, printed in various colors, with original metal fastening clip, as issued. First Edition. One of two sets of broadsides printed and distributed by The Free City Collective (formerly the Diggers). The sheets were eventually collected into 2 sets, each fastened together with a metal clip. This is set #2. Brautigan's poem 'Spinning Like a Ghost on the Bottom of a Top' ('Boo Forever') is featured on one of the sheets, and is the first appearance of this well-loved poem. One sheet, featuring "News of the Day" with a drawing and poem on the verso, is not present here. Scarce. After declaring 'The Death of the Hippie' in the summer of 1967, the anarchist collective The Diggers officially morphed into The Free City Collective, a San Francisco community based group, staging free events and poetry readings throughout the city. They created the Free Food Program, distributing food to communes and others in need. In 1967 the Diggers appropriated the equipment formerly used to produce the Communication Company bulletins, and the new Free City Collective used these machines to create the Free City News sheets, distributing them for free.
