The sale catalogue of the library of the Duc de Brancas, known as Comte de Lauraguais, who devoted himself, after a military career, to literature, the arts, and science. Voltaire dedicated the comedy L'Ecossaise to Brancas. His rather spectacular spending in various fields forced Brancas to part with his collection. DBF calls him an 'homme d'esprit et de bon sens, mais outrecuidant et amoral'. Blogie II, col.11; Graesse II:71; North 199.
