Beschreibung:

BRAM BOGART (1921-2012) Oranjerood, 1978. Red pigment and oil. Signed and signed on the side 'Bogart 78' and on the reverse 'Bram Bogart/ jun. 1978' with title. Provenance: Kruishoutem, Galerie Veranneman (label on the reverse). A heavy orange-red paint layer has been smeared over the entire surface creating heaps of matter at the edges. The smooth central area sets off against the think, rough borders. After a strict geometrical period where Bogart plays off different colours against each other (cf ), he turns to monochromy from 1969 onwards. His choice to highlight only one colour is a logical next step as it further enhances the independent nature of his works. By applying subtle grooves to the smooth surface and straight lines to the voluptuous borders, Bogart playfully allows matter to show her richness through the numerous nuances of colour. As a further consequence of the thick edges, the painting no longer fits a frame. The edges become a real part of the work and the 'canvas' looses its two-dimensional character: the painting becomes a sculpture. Dimensions: 67 x 68 x 12 cm cm
