BRADLEY, Richard (1688-1732). The History of Succulent Plants. London: Printed for the Author [and William Mears], 1716-27. 5 parts in one volume, 4 o (220 x 170 mm). 50 engraved illustrations of plants on 49 plates (plate 30 with blank margin repaired, a few plates trimmed close to plate margin). Contemporary calf gilt (rebacked, corners repaired). Provenance : H.M. Roan (bookplate); FIRST EDITION, with the first title without the Willam Mears imprint. One of Bradley's best known works. According to Johnson's History of Gardening (1829), Bradley was "one of the first to treat gardening and agriculture as sciences." Henrey 490; Nissen BBI 221; Stafleu & Cowan TL2 699.
