C. Stadler after J. Farington, 3 folding. (Aquatint view of Windsor Bridge in vol. II lightly spotted, occasional light spotting and staining.) Finely-bound in 19th-century scarlet morocco gilt by J. Larkins, covers with triple gilt fillet borders, spines elaborately gilt in compartments, top edges gilt (extremities lightly rubbed, some light scuffing to covers). Provenance : "H. A. Rogers, 83 Hanley Road, London N." (inscribed at foot of manuscript titles). FIRST EDITION, LAVISHLY EXTRA-ILLUSTRATED WITH APPROXIMATELY 925 MOSTLY 18TH- AND 19TH-CENTURY ENGRAVED AND LITHOGRAPHED PLATES, some hand-coloured, double-page or folding. The additional plates include 630 views, 137 portraits, 29 maps or plans, various facsimiles, and tables. A number of plates were taken from Ackermann's History of the University of Oxford . Also included is an original pen-and-ink study, unsigned, of Blackfriar's Bridge and St. Paul's Cathedral.
