Boucheron, a lady's French 18 carat gold square wristwatch, circa 1975, ref.6261, engine turned gold dial with black baton hands, two piece case with a conforming engine turned bevelled bezel, the plain back with French eagle head poincon and lozenge maker's mark 'LSM', no.8261, on a red leather strap with slide-in terminal, Swiss round movement, cal. R100; together with a spare green crocodile strap, and a Boucheron brown snake skin pouch Fredeic Boucheron opened his jewellery salon at the Palais royal in Paris in 1858. He quickly became recongised as an expert in stones and the art of jewellery manufacture. He was awarded the gold medal at the 1867 Paris International Exposition. Frederic's success enabled the firm to move to a mansion at 23 Place Vendome in 1893, becoming the first jeweller to establish a business in that square. In the early 20th century Boucheron opened a branch in Moscow in direct competion with Cartier and Faberge, and branches in London and New York quickly followed. Boucheron's client list has included most of the major jewellery buyers in the 20th century, including tha Maharajah of Patiala in the 1920's, and the Persian Imperial family, the Pahlavis, from the 1920's to the 1970's, for whom Louis Boucheron catalogued the magnificent Royal treasures of Persia. The founder, Frederic Boucheron died in 1902, and was succeeded by his son Louis, and today Alain Boucheron, Frederic's great grandson, remains at the helm of one of the world's leading jewellers.
