LOZZI, 3637; PLATNER, 268: "Raro". 4°(200x141 mm). [20], 184 pages. Figurative frontispiece, on woodcut, with view of Pisa on the background. Woodcut vignette on title page. Four woodcut plates out of text. Foxing and spot on the lower outer corner of the last quires, browning on some leaves. Contemporary granité calf, spine with four raised bands, compartments decorated by floreal gilt-tooled tools; sprinkled red edges. Some notes taken from another edition and affixed at the text to which they refer. First edition of this curious and very rare work which in addition to investigating, in the form of 35 questions, the origins of this "finta battaglia", describes two famous games, so-called 'giochi del ponte' (the one of the 26th of April 1589 for the arrival in Pisa of Cristina di Lorenza, bride of Ferdinando de' Medici, and the other one organized by Pisani in Florence on the 28th of October 1608 for the wedding of Cosimo II with Maria Maddalena d'Austria). LOZZI, 3637; PLATNER, 268: "Raro".
