(Light dampstaining, mostly marginal, at beginning and end, marginal worming in last 2 leaves.) Contemporary half pigskin over wooden boards, blindtooled with a hunting roll, pineapple and flower stamps (not in Schunke), title lettered on front board, fragments of a mid 15th-century vellum papal document of Nicolaus V addressed to Nicolaus Bruher at Bescancon bound in (somewhat stained and rubbed, split at head of spine, missing catches). Provenance : annotations and an apostille on the Constitutiones written in early German hands -- Boston University, College of Liberal Arts Library (bookplates; deaccession letter provided). A Venice edition of the decretals of Popes Boniface and Clement is here joined by a rare, separate Lyons edition of the 'extravagantes' of John XXII, acquired by a contemporary German reader. Although he remains anonymous, his manuscript annotations and tables show close use of the volume. The second work may be an unrecorded edition. Fradin specialised in editions of the Corpus iuris canonicus and --civilis and printed at least three other editions of the Extravagantes with commentary by Jellinus, but the present edition does not appear to correspond to them; cf. S. von Gultlingen, Bibliographie des livres imprimés à Lyon aux 16. siècle , 1992, esp. Fradin 25, 49 and 124; and Baudrier VIII, pp.89 passim).
