Additional engraved title by Wilhelm Frommer (Short tear to Qqq1 and 2 with old repair, affecting a few lines of text.) Contemporary vellum (remnants of cloth ties, short split to vellum at spine and one edge). Provenance : Fuerstlich Auerspergsche Fideicommisbibliothek zu Laybach (bookplate). FIRST EDITION. The first part, De arte belli , is on weapons, forts, and the art of war; it is also an attempt to define war and the reasons leading to war. The second part, De arte pacis , is on international relations and discusses diplomacy, neutrality of states, etc. The Latin text has numerous quotations mainly in German and French.
