(I:1/1 supplied from a later edition with variant title, intermittent browning, dampstains to extreme blank margins, old tear and mend without loss of text to I:X2, inkstain to II:kk7v-8r, old tear without loss of text to II:KK1, several small wormholes to beginning and end of each volume.) 18th-century French mottled calf over 15th-century wooden boards, preserving many deckle edges; vellum endleaves, one cut from a 14th-century document (somewhat worn, some worming, spine of vol. II cracked). Provenance : Colombier-le-Cardinal (near Vienne-en-Dauphiné), Celestines: 15th-century inscriptions at begining and end of each volume -- scattered early marginalia -- Robert Edward Way: modern wood-engraved bookplate in vol. II. St. Bonaventure, a Franciscan and one of the most important theologians of the thirteenth century, was also an influential spiritual writer in the tradition of St. Augustine. Like all important medieval writers, his reputation attracted the spurious attribution to his corpus of works by other authors. His Opuscula , a collection of works attributed to him, together with documents relating to his life and canonization, were published in seven different incunable editions, beginning in Cologne in 1484.
