BOLOGNA -- Pellegrino Antonio ORLANDI (1659-1727). Notizie degli scrittori Bolognesi e dell'opere loro stampate e manoscritte. Bologna: Constantino Pisarri, 1714. 4 o (230 x 163mm). Woodcut title vignette, head- and tailpieces and initials. Contemporary vellum over pasteboard (slight damage along upper edge). Orlandi's bibliography of authors of his native city. He was preceded by Giovanni Nicolo Pasquale Alidosi, whose bibliography of learned Bolognese 'dottori' of 1623 appears to be so rare that it escaped the notice of Fumagalli ( Bibliotheca Bibliografica Italiana ); though Hoefer gives Alidosi's biography, DBI ignores him. Montalbani followed him in 1641, but Orlandi's work is a great improvement on that of both his predecessors. Orlandi spent most of his life in Bologna, with the Carmelite priory of St. Martin and teaching at the College of Sacred Theology.
