BODYLINE 1932-33 AND WEST INDIES IN AUSTRALIA 1930-31, Shaw & Shrewbury Treble Spring Colonial Specially Selected bat signed by the ENGLAND BODYLINE TEAM (13 signatures including Jardine, Larwood, Sutclifee, Hammond, Leyland, Ames, Verity and others, also signed by the West Indies and Australian Teams 1930-31, probably at Adelaide First Test, by Bradman, Woodfull, Grimmett, Fairfax, Wall, Oldfield, Hurwood, Kippax, Jackson, Rigg, Ponsford, McCabe; Grant, Birkett, Scott, Headly, Griffith and others, inscribed at shoulder 'T.W.Wall Ltd'. Although some of the West Indies team were white, several were black causing some problems for the administrators of Australian cricket. This was the heyday of the white Australia policy and Bill Jeanes, secretary of the Board of Control, found that he had to get the approval of the Department of Home Affairs before the black members of the side could enter the country. Indeed, the 1960-61 West Indians including Sir Garfield Sobers, Sir Frank Worrell and others were only allowed in as 'Honorary Whites'. Initially the 1930-31 West Indians were placed in separate hotels in Sydney along the lines of their colour, until they complained, 'From then on this polite and friendly team has moved as one', see 200 Seasons of Australian Cricket page 214. Although the West Indies were defeated 4-1, it was in their victory in the fifth Test at Sydney that Bradman got his first Test duck, when he was bowled 'around his legs with a vicious swinging, kicking ball' by the fast bowler Griffith. In an earlier Test he had dismissed Bradman for 4 and became fond of referring to Bradman as his'rabbit'
