Two engraved titles and 33 full-page plates (4 double-page) by Pieter van der Borcht after drawings by Cornelis Floris II and Joos de Momper after the designs of Martin de Vos, two pages of musical printing. 17th-century Dutch calf, spine in six compartments with five raised bands, gilt-lettered in one, a repeated gilt panel in the others (rubbed, lower joints split). Provenance : J.A. Molhuysen (bookplate); acquired from Marlborough Rare Books, 1963. Ernest (1553-1595), Archduke of Austria, became Governor of the Catholic provinces in the Low Countries after the death of the Prince of Parma in 1592. This work celebrates his visit to Antwerp in June-July 1594. The Archduke's fame was glorious, though brief: he died in Brussels in February 1595, and a funeral oration closes this work. The full-page plate on p. 125 with the "Porticus Fuggerorum" represents the arch of triumph erected in honor of Archduke Ernest by Marcus and Johannes Fugger, members of the illustrious Augsburg family, renowned bibliophiles and humanists, who also had a business branch in Antwerp. Bochius celebrates the entry of Isabella Clara Eugenia of Spain (1566-1633) and her husband Albert VII (1559-1621), Archduke of Austria (as Governor of the Provinces), into Brussels, Antwerp, Ghent and Valenciennes.
