Boccaccio, Giovanni. Il Libro Di Messer Giovanni Boccaccio Cittadino Fiorentino Chiamato Il Decameron Cognominato Prencipe Galeotto Nel Quale Si Contengono Cento Novelle in Dieci Di Dette Da Sette Donne E Da Tre Giovani Uomini, 1 of 105 copies in an edition of 111, Chelsea, The Ashendene Press, 1913-1920. Linen backed blue boards, headings of each Giornata in blue, of the Novelle in red, shoulder notes in red, initial capitals in red and blue, folio. '....the printing of this book was begun in 1913. Before it was half way through the work was interrupted by the World War, which necessitated the closing down of the Press till January 1920. In 1927 an amusing incident occurred in connection with this book. A copy sent by Messrs. Maggs, the London booksellers, to a client in the State of Kansas, USA, was impounded by the Post Office authorities of the United States and, in spite of protests destroyed as an 'immoral book!' myself saw the mutilated copy returned to Messrs. Maggs as 'evidence of destruction.'
