BLONDEL, Jacques François. Architecture Françoise, ou recueil des plans, elevations, coupes et profils des eglises, maisons royales, palais, hôtels... Paris: Charles-Antoine-Jombert, 1752-1756. Volumes I-IV only (all published), 2° (530 x 355mm). Engraved title vignettes to vols.I-II, headpieces, illustrations, woodcut illustrations. 499 engraved plates (numbered 1-489, '492', 492-500, with 23 leaves printed with two numbers), 93 double-page, 32 folding. Contemporary red sheep-backed marbled boards, uncut (extremities scuffed). Provenance : ?Wildenstein (armorial stamp on titles). FIRST EDITION, A FINE UNCUT LARGE-PAPER COPY on paper 'dit nom de Jesus' (Brunet). An early issue of vol.IV with incorrect numbering of final ten plates, vol.I with the four sheets of plates 226 and 228 bound as two folding plates. The work was to have consisted of 8 volumes containing 1200 plates. Only 4 volumes were completed, but it nevertheless remains as one of the most ambitious French architectural works and the most authoritative source for the architecture of Paris.
