Engraved frontispiece and 44 engraved plates in vol. 1 (42 folding), 111 engraved plates in vol. 2 (12 folding), mostly by Blondel numerous engraved head- and tail-pieces and initials in text. Contemporary mottled calf, spines gilt (light wear to joints and spine ends). FIRST EDITION, second issue (without the errata and with Jombert's address as "Rue Dauphine") of Blondel's first published work. Blondel, who was one of the most significant French architectural educators of the 18th century, intended to establish a domestic architectural style conforming to the classical principles used on civic buildings, but adapted to suit private homes.
