BLANCPAIN FIFTY FATHOMS. EXTREMELY RARE STAINLESS STEEL AUTOMATIC DIVERS WATCH Model: 50 Technisub Date: Circa 1950's Movement: Signed, 53-Jewels, Cal.R.310, 3 positions Swiss, No.60XXXX Dial: Signed, black, luminous hour markers, baton quarters, white outer minute division, NO RADIATION stamp at the 6 o'clock position, white sword hands with luminous insert, white centre seconds hand with luminous insert Case: Signed, brushed tonneau form, screw down back, black fixed bezel, No.30XXXX Strap: Generic cream, stainless steel buckle Size: 41mm The Blancpain Fifty Fathoms was conceived as a Divers watch well before the Rolex submariner and the Omega Seamaster. It was commissioned in 1952 by Captain Bob Maloubier, member of the French Elite team of Tactical Soldiers, but it wasn’t until 1966 that Maloubeir was capable to convince Blancpain to produce a “No Radiation” model for the French Armed Forces. Different countries used it for their Special Forces such as Israeli, German, Swedish, Norwegian, Finnish and Danish during the 70’s and in 1980’s the US NAVY started using it too. More than 20 different models were produced of this iconic watch including the one used by Jacques Cousteau in 1956 during the Cannes Festival. The Blancpain Fifty Fathoms with a “Non-Radioactive” dial is a must for any divers watch collector, because of its history rarity, quality, durability and incredible design.
