Brussel], 1929 [(?) but later], 4°, number 104 of 160 copies, signed by the artist and with "mom" on the title leaf in Blaine's hand, 50 plates, unbound as issued in a cloth portfolio (worn); Nova Venus, New York: Walden Publications, 1938 [but 1939], 8°, signed by Blaine, 40 leaves, unbound as issued in original black cloth folder, gilt figure on upper cover. (2) Venus Sardonica , an album of 50 drawings of exotic and demonic women, was originally published in 1929, each with one original drawing, and with no title. Other reprints appear to have been done, and this one may well have been published by the erotic publisher Brussel, for whom Blaine illustrated many books. With the reissue of Venus Sardonica Brussel published Nova Venus as a "cover item" intended to cast dust in the eyes of the authorities in case of censorship problems with Venus Sardonica .
