BLADEN, Martin (1680-1746). Solon: or, Philosophy No Defense against Love. A Tragi-Comedy. With the Masque of Orpheus and Euridice . London: Printed for R. Smith and sold by J. Nutt, 1705. 4 o (214 x 166 mm). Half-title. (Lightly browned and spotted.) 20th-century half calf. Provenance : Ralph H. Isham, C.B.E. (1890-1955), American collector, served in France as a Second Lieutenant in the Royal Engineers in 1917, and later was a Lieutenant-Colonel on the British Staff in 1918. He is perhaps best known for discovering and acquiring the James Boswell family papers from Malahide Castle in Ireland in the 1920s. The Boswell papers were published under his auspices during the years 1928-1937 (bookplate); A. Edward Newton (bookplate; sold Parke-Bernet, Part I, 16 April 1941, lot 114). FIRST EDITION. The verso of the half-title contains a list of works recently published.
