Contemporary purple morocco gilt, spine lettered and decorated in gilt, boards with gilt borders of foliate rolls enclosed within rules, gilt edges, original upper wrapper bound in, later morocco-backed slipcase by The Heritage Bindery (spine slightly darkened, extremities lightly rubbed). Provenance : 'M.L.C.' (gilt-stamped initials on upper board; loosely-inserted catalogue entry describing this copy and stating that it 'comes from a member of Crosby's family')--occasional underlinings and annotations to the text. FIRST EDITION. As Crosby states in his introduction, this privately-published volume was intended to 'influence people in general and my friends in particular towards a deeper, more extensive appreciation of poetry', and it seems probable that this copy was presented to a member of his family, whose initials appear on the upper board.
