BLACK SUN PRESS -- CROSBY, Henry ['Harry'] Grew (1898-1929, editor). Anthology . [Paris]: Maurice Dantière [for Harry Crosby], 1924. 8° (147 x 120mm). Inkstamped on verso of the upper wrapper 'PRINTED FOR PRIVATE USE , ONLY , NOT FOR SALE'. (Lightly browned.) Contemporary purple morocco gilt, spine lettered and decorated in gilt, boards with gilt borders of foliate rolls enclosed within rules, gilt edges, original upper wrapper bound in, later morocco-backed slipcase by The Heritage Bindery (spine slightly darkened, extremities lightly rubbed). Provenance : 'M.L.C.' (gilt-stamped initials on upper board; loosely-inserted catalogue entry describing this copy and stating that it 'comes from a member of Crosby's family')--occasional underlinings and annotations to the text. FIRST EDITION. As Crosby states in his introduction, this privately-published volume was intended to 'influence people in general and my friends in particular towards a deeper, more extensive appreciation of poetry', and it seems probable that this copy was presented to a member of his family, whose initials appear on the upper board. Minkoff A1.
