A land-lease signed in the year of Bernice Pauahi Bishop's death, also signed by her husband and his business partner, Samuel M. Damon. Pauahi, a descendent of Kamehameha, married businessman Bishop, and the two would become important philanthropists in the Island's history, founding the Kamehameha Schools to educate native children. Damon was the son of Samuel C. Damon, minister and editor of The Friend.
