Mayor, 1782" in gilt, flat spines ornately gilt to an all-over floral pattern except for the title-lettering on the Bible volumes, g.e. Provenance: John Brown binding); Carleton Richmond (armorial bookplate). Three attractive English bindings of about 1782, presumably executed for presentation to John Brown This otherwise unidentified workshop bound another Book of Common Prayer (Cambridge: 1770) with which the present bindings share a large vase and flower tool (see Maggs Bros. catalogue 966, no.154 and reproduction on p.154).
