Bimota's reputation for providing the ultimate in motorcycling thrills had come under threat during the early nineties. Honda's Fireblade, in particular, had proved the Japanese could build light, powerful machines that were anything but bland. The search for an engine to power a new flagship sports bike ended when Suzuki introduced the water-cooled GSX-R1100. In full power form, and with a less restrictive exhaust and intake, the Suzuki engine was capable of over 155bhp, 30bhp more than even the best standard Fireblade. Married to an all-new, amazingly compact aluminium chassis, it made for a formidable combination of light weight and razor-sharp handling. At first glance, the SB6 looks like a 600, or a 750 at most - it's that small. With a microscopic wheelbase of just 54.2in, it steers like a 600 too, and you can put total confidence in the wide front tyre's ability to cope with fast direction changes. But it's when you open the throttle that the SB6 really shows its true colours. The successor to the Bimota SB6 had one very significant change; a fuel injected GSXR750 Suzuki motor, delivering even more horsepower. The SB7 was another step along the road for Bimota in refining their unique vision of what the ultimate sports bike should be all about. In every other way the SB7 was pretty much the same as its predecessor; a stunningly beautiful, handcrafted, bespoke missile. Incredibly light, with superb suspension and brakes, the SB7 was built for riders who wanted to indulge themselves at high speed and damn the expense. It is thought that this is one of only 200 made for homologation purposes for the World Superbike racing. This 1994 Bimota SB7 came out of Galleria Bimota, the UK dealership at the time, and was prepared as Terry Rymer's spare racing motorcycle. Terry Rymer won no fewer than 147 races in his career. In 1985 he won the BMCRC 250cc and 350cc Championships. He later won the 1990 British Superbike Championship, as well as the 1992 and 1999 Endurance World Championship. He was a regular in the Superbike World Championship every year from 1988 to 1994, with 2 wins and 9 further podiums. He rode at the 1992 British Motorcycle Grand Prix and placed 6th. He made a handful of 500cc Grand Prix starts for Suzuki in 1996. Subsequently he returned to the British Superbike championship with some success - five race wins in 1996 with a Ducati, and one in 1998 for Suzuki. He won the prestigious Bol d'Or race five times, and the 24 Hours Le Mans motorcycle race once. This example is fitted with two, six-piston AP race callipers, 320mm AP low profile race discs Stäubli quick release hydraulic connectors to the front brakes, the rear are fitted with a double-action Brembo calliper on a 230mm brake disc and AP fully adjustable radial master cylinder. Fitted extras include Carbon Frame guards, carbon footrest hangers, carbon mirrors, carbon exhaust heat shield, GP rotary steering damper, works exhaust and CNC folding clutch leaver. This super bike is in excellent condition and has only covered 8,150 miles from new and is supplied with a V5C registration document and a new MoT test certificate.
