Extra-illustrated with a fine double-page fraktur calligraphic manuscript ownership sheet mounted at the front. Contemporary Swiss black velvet with elaborate silver-gilt mounts, flowered-paper liners, g.e. (the nap of the velvet worn away, joints split, small sections of cloth on spine lacking), modern cloth box. Provenance : Anna Barbara im Hoff von Altnau (ownership sheet, dated 10 July 1796); Major J.R.Abbey (armorial booklabel, collection number 6877). The binding is Swiss, probably Zurich, unmarked, the covers with a wide shaped silver-gilt pierced and chased border, composed of scrollwork and foliage, incorporating four parrots and a basket of flowers. The spine is plain but has ornaments at head and foot of scrollwork and a vase of flowers. The clasps have pierced ornament and a figure of a phoenix.
