Two volumes, bound in contemporary red goatskin rebacked at a recent date with modern levant spines, the covers with a central panel enclosed with single and double fillets, the center of each side of the panel tooled with strawberry and flower volutes and tools, scrolls, flowers and dots, cloth ties; the whole much in the manner of the Royal Heads Binder. 17 x 11 inches (43 x 28 cm); Volume I with engraved frontispiece (the royal arms by Wenceslaus Hollar , the dedication to Charles II signed by John Ogilby title leaf, the Book of Holy Prayer, engraved title page depicting Solomon on his throne; volume 2 with letterpress New Testament, a divisional title (dated 1659), Apocrypha. In total there are 110 double page plates (including the plan of the Temple of Solomon) and the large folding panorama of Jerusalem. Ruled in red throughout. Bookplate of J. Dickins (a Cambridge graduate of 1742), contemporary marginalia to title of vol. I, tears into a few plates, other intermittent spotting and marginal stains or chips, panorama with a few marginal chips, backed with tissue, minor wear to early boards with one tie lacking. As plate counts vary with this work, the lot is sold as is. The Bible was printed by Field, but much of the edition was bought up by Ogilby for this reissue, which he illustrated with engravings (most by Cornelis Visscher after Rubens, de Vos, de Bruyn, Tintoretto and others) purchased from Nicolaes Visscher, the Amsterdam publisher.
