The etching, first published by Dumont in1894 after the death of Manet, was reprinted in 1905 in an edition of 100 by Strolin, and subsequently, published in the English and German editions of Duret's Manet & the French Impressionists (1910). Berthe Morisot was an important Impressionist artist in her own right and the early organizer of the Impressionists' exhibitions. She was married to Eugène Manet, the brother of her friend and colleague Édouard.
