BERENSON, BERNARD (and others] Pictures in the Collection of Joseph Widener at Lynnewood Hall, Elkins Park, Pennsylvania. Philadelphia: privately published (printed by Theodore Lowe DeVinne), 1931. Full red morocco by Rivière and Son (as published), covers with a central panel within a frame of rules and rolls, with arabesque cornerpieces, surrounded with double gilt fillets, spine lavishly gilt, broad dentelles with rolls, green moire silk endpapers, top edge gilt, housed in the original felt-lined slipcase. 17 1/2 x 13 3/4 inches (44 x 35.5 cm); 7 ff., frontispiece portrait, 106 superb monotone plates with accompanying leaf with biographical and descriptive notes. Some minimal wear to this enormous volume, overall near fine. Sold with a copy of the small-format publication of the same name and date, a fine copy warmly inscribed by Joseph Widener. The collection was given to the National Gallery of Art, and was installed there in 1942. The Widener gift was announced by President Franklin D. Roosevelt at the Gallery's opening ceremony.
