New York: Printed for the Author by J. Lindon, 1829. 8° (220 x 140mm). Folding map, 6 lithographic plates. Original cloth-backed green boards, printed blue paper spine label, (spine and inner hinges restored). FIRST EDITION of the most important personal account of the Falkland Islands of the time. Barnard, of the brig 'Nanina' out of New York, with Edmund Fanning, reached the Falklands in 1812 just as the United States declared war on Britain. His ship was seized by the British shipwreck victims he had rescued, and he and his men were marooned, the 'Nanina' then sailed to London as a Prize. Major Alexander GILLESPIE. Gleanings and Remarks . Leeds: Printed by B. Dewhirst for the Author, 1818. 8vo (226 x 143mm). Folding map, double-page chart. Original blue boards, uncut, (covers a little worn). First edition, a first hand account of the capture of Buenos Aires by Britain in 1806 at which time the Spanish governor of the Falklands abandoned his post, again giving free rein to whalers and sealers.
