Beschreibung:

'If Les Vingt Quatre Heures du Mans has been responsible for the new E-Type Jaguar, then that Homeric contest on the Sarthe circuit will have been abundantly justified. Here we have one of the quietest and most flexible cars on the market, capable of whispering along in top gear at 10mph or leaping into its 150mph stride on the brief depression of a pedal. A practical touring car, this, with its wide doors and capacious luggage space, yet it has a sheer beauty of line which easily beats the Italians at their own particular game.' - John Bolster, Autosport. Introduced in 3.8-liter form in 1961, the Jaguar E-Type caused a sensation when it appeared, with instantly classic lines and 150mph top speed. Its design owed much to that of the racing D-Type: a monocoque tub forming the main structure while a tubular space frame extended forwards to support the engine. The latter was the 3.8-liter, triple-carburetor, 'S' unit first offered as an option on the XK150. An optimistic 265bhp was claimed, but whatever the installed horsepower, the E-Type's performance did not disappoint; firstly, because it weighed around 500lb (227kg) less than the XK150 and secondly because aerodynamicist Malcolm Sayer used experience gained with the D-Type to create one of the most elegant and efficient shapes ever to grace a motor car. According to Jaguar Heritage archives car # 879060 was dispatched to through Peter Lindner's distribution chain in Frankfurt, Germany on March 4, 1963. It was one of the rare left hand models not to have made it to North America and for that reason it benefited from the increased compression ratio of 9:1 over those cars supplied to the U.S. Optioned in arguably the most sought after color combination of Opalescent Gunmetal with red leather the first owner enjoyed the car for several years before the car made its way to the United States in the late 1960's. Early in 1971 the car found its way to Connecticut where the current owner took possession of the XKE and remained its custodian for the next 40 years. The Jaguar today is a remarkably original and unmolested example sitting properly on original wide white bias ply tires. This is a fleeting opportunity to acquire an early, matching number, 3.8 liter E Type Roadster, unique, one year only, patterned aluminum console (1963) and restore it to the original (beautiful) color and that Jaguar which chose for the car they originally debuted the model at the Geneva in 1961.
