a selection of 108 plates only, of 738, these from an hors de commerce set, numbered VIII/X, aside from the main edition of 100, after the drawings of Sydney Parkinson of specimens gathered and classified on Captain James Cook’s first voyage around the world in H.M.S. Endeavour, 1768-1771, by The Right Hon. Sir Joseph Banks, Bart., K.B., P.C., P.R.S., and Dr Daniel Solander, F.R.S., copper engravings, colour-printed à la poupée in up to 10 colours, and finished by hand, on Inveresk Somerset wove paper, each c.465 x 300mm., each with the publisher’s and printer’s blindstamp, numbered and initialled by the printer, in pencil below, all loosely inserted in acid-free window mounts bearing titles and plate numbers, most contained in 15 cloth-backed portfolios, all in 6 publisher’s green-cloth solander boxes, folio, Alecto Historical Editions in association with the British Museum (Natural History), the first edition , 1980-1990
