Provenance : Harald Fernström (engineer, 1852-1927; printed dedication). A VERY RARE SERIES OF VIEWS OF THE BAKINSKY DOCK, FROM THE COLLECTION OF ITS CHIEF ENGINEER . Baku had by thelate 19th century become the global centre of the oil industry, which was accompanied by a surge in sea trade. Before the Bakinskii dock was built Baku lacked the deep docks needed to service increasingly large ships. Scenes include general views of the site, and a number of views of the machinery and pumps used to control water levels in the dock. WorldCat records no other copy of this work. With, laid in: a two-page autograph letter to Fernström from the Gwynne Company regarding representing the company in Baku, together with a 16-page printed catalogue of Gwynne machinery, and five smaller, later photographs.
