FIRST EDITION of Badius's short satire on the follies of women, inspired by Brant's famous work; not to be confused with his later Navis stultifera (first edition: Paris 1505), a different text on the same ship of fools theme. The first woodcut shows Adam and Eve in the ship of fools, and the others show the "foolish virgins" in five different ships representing the follies of the five senses. The same blocks were used to illustrate a French adaptation of the text by Jean Drouyn, included in an undated edition printed by Le Petit Laurens (c. 1498-1501, GW 3156) along with other "folly" texts based on Brant.
