Autographs Robert Dudley 1st Earl of Leicester 1567 (16 July) folio letter written to Gerald FitzGerald 11th Earl of Kildare returning the sum of £500 which had been borrowed from him. The letter is addressed to Thomas Fynche, servant of the Lord deputy of Ireland to be delivered to Ralph Knight, a servant of Sir Henry Sidney. The letter is signed " R Leycester" and "W Cecill". At the foot of the letter, in another hand, " Receyved by vertue of this lettre of the above named Thomas Fynch to the use of the sayde Erle of Kildare the day and yare above wrytten the some of Fyve hundreth poundes I say per me Ra Knight" . Photo Robert Dudley 1st Earl of Leicester (1532 – 1588) was an English nobleman and the favourite and close friend of Elizabeth I's, from her first year on the throne until his death. He was a suitor for the Queen's hand for many years. At this time he was a privy councillor and Master of the Horse. William Cecil (1520 – 1598) later 1st Baron Burghley, was an English statesman, the chief advisor of Queen Elizabeth I for most of her reign. At this time he was Secretary of State Sir Henry Sidney (1529 – 1586), Lord Deputy of Ireland, was the eldest son of Sir William Sidney of Penshurst, a prominent politician and courtier during the reigns of Henry VIII and Edward VI. He was brought up at court as the companion of Prince Edward, afterwards King Edward VI, and he continued to enjoy the favour of the Crown, particularly throughout the reign of Queen Elizabeth I.
