(Autographs & Memorabilia | Live Online, 4th December 2020) Autograph Collection.- Miscellaneous Autograph Collection.-Miscellaneous A collection of letters by prominent figures addressed to Linda Christmas, comprising: Anthony Burgess (one typed letter setting up an interview with Linda in Rome, one page, 7 October 1974 and an autograph note saying "It was lovely...seeing you again and being so royally fed", one page, 5 November 1980); Stanley Kubrick (typed note on personalised stationary, reading "You are a very good writer and I enjoyed reading the articles that you enclosed. If it were not for the fact that I hate doing interviews, I should be very happy to oblige your request", one page, 26 January 1976); Paddy Chayefsky (three typed letters, one declining Linda's request for an interview, three pages, 27 April 1978-19 April 1979); Alan Bates (typed letter apologising for missing an appointment for an interview, one page, 5 February 1980); Roald Dahl (typed letter declining Linda's invitation to write for The Guardian "you know that I don't do any of these sort of pieces or indeed any writing to order. I know you have paid me a fine compliment and don't think I am not aware of it, but please forgive me for saying no", one page, light creasing, 1 April 1980; Alec Waugh (autograph letter accepting Linda's request to write an article, one page, 4 April 1980, also with a postcard from Waugh to Linda); Pierre Paul Read (two typed letters, one saying the article he has been working on is unsatisfactory and "I would rather withdraw the article altogether and recognise...that I am not really a very good journalist", one page, 8 July 1980); Rebecca West (typed letter saying "This is a most enchanting letter of yours becaue I have only seen Margaret Forster once, but I thought she looked perfectly delightful and I like two of her books very much", one page, 16 July 1980) and John Fowles (two typed letters, one reading "I think as regards to Margaret Forster I must say no. The reasons for this are personal, but just let me say that I was rather surprised that she had any interest in me whatever", one page, 1 December 1980), v.s.; with copies of typed letters from Linda (18) (Qty: 18)
