AUTOGRAPHS -- FILLON, Benjamin (1819-1881). Inventaire des Autographes et des Documents historiques composant la collection de M. Benjamin Fillon. . Paris, Étienne Charavay, and London, Frédéric Naylor (& A.W. Thibaudeau), 1877 (-1883). Series I-XV (all published) in 6 parts bound in one volume, 4 o (243 x 180 mm). Numerous facsimile illustrations. (Browned.) Later half cloth (extremities slightly rubbed). THE VERY RARE COMPLETE CATALOGUE OF THE FILLON COLLECTION, PUBLISHED OVER A PERIOD OF SIX AND HALF YEARS, here with the prices for the first four parts supplied in a contemporary manuscript hand. This work has remained one of the principal reference works for those concerned with the identification of autographs, on account of the hundreds of line block facsimiles (some of the earliest of their kind) of specimens of autographs and signatures, many of which have never been reproduced elsewhere. Fillon was, i.a., an authority on the Vendie (of which he was at one time appointed governor) and Poitou (his bibliography contains 439 numbers) and a collector of antiquities and pre-historical objects which were dispersed after his death (cf. DBF). Together with the Bovet Catalogue, this is Etienne Charavey's, the greatest nineteenth century autograph expert, principal work. The British Library has only the sale catalogues of 1878 and 1879. Mecklenburg, p. 151. [ With: ] LHOMER, Jean and Pierre CORNUAU. Tableaux des Personnages célèbres de la Révolution Française du Consulat et de l'Empire. Introduction de Raoul Bonnet. Paris, 1929. 4 o (260 x 195 mm). 4 plates, numerous illustrations. Bound for Martin Breslauer in brown half morocco by Ernst Heinrich, spine gilt, light brown morocco lettering pieces, original wrappers bound in. -- 6 others. (8)
