Mosby, Attorney-at-Law. 10x8. John S. Mosby, 1833-1916, rose to colonel in the Confederate forces, commanding an irregular cavalry known as Mosby's Rangers, noted for his daring raids into Union territory, often robbing banks and government offices. Regarded as outlaws by the Union forces, he nevertheless succeeded after the Civil War, even joining the Republican party, and was the U.S. consul to Hong Kong from 1878 to 1885. Mosby writes to a Messrs. Morrison, "Dear Sirs, I desire you to send me the following works - Froude's Ireland, Mary Queen of Scots by Meline, Scribner for December, Atlantic Monthly Do., Municipal Corporations...
